This policy is written in plain English to explain what happens to your information when you visit this site, buy the book, or sign up for updates. It is a general template and not a substitute for tailored legal advice.

Who we are

This site (maxcoyle.com) is operated by Max Coyle Publishing, based in Hamilton, Aotearoa New Zealand. For anything relating to this policy, contact contact@maxcoyle.com.

What information we collect

We collect information in three ways, depending on what you choose to do on this site:

Buying the paperback directly: if you use the "Buy Direct" button, you're taken to a Stripe-hosted checkout page. Stripe collects your name, shipping address, email, and payment details on our behalf to process and fulfil your order. We receive your order and shipping details from Stripe so we can post the book to you; we do not see or store your card details at any point.
Joining the newsletter: if you sign up via the "Join the Newsletter" button, your email address (and name, if you provide one) is collected and stored by MailerLite, our email service provider, so we can send you updates.
Browsing the site: our newsletter provider's tracking script runs on this site to measure things like signup performance, which may use cookies or similar technology in your browser. We don't otherwise run separate analytics or advertising trackers.

If you buy the book on Amazon instead, your information is collected and handled entirely by Amazon under its own privacy policy — we never receive or see that data.

How we use your information

To process, pack, and ship paperback orders placed directly through this site
To send you the newsletter, if you've opted in — you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email
To respond if you contact us directly
To meet our legal and accounting obligations (e.g. keeping records of sales)

We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.

Who we share information with

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to run this site and fulfil orders. Each handles data under its own privacy policy:

Stripe — payment processing and checkout for direct purchases
MailerLite — newsletter signup and email delivery
Cloudflare — hosting and content delivery for this website
Amazon — if you purchase via Amazon rather than directly

How long we keep your information

We keep order records for as long as needed to meet tax and accounting obligations under New Zealand law. If you unsubscribe from the newsletter, MailerLite removes you from active mailing lists, though some records may be retained briefly to honour your unsubscribe request and prevent re-adding you by mistake.

Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 (and similar protections if you're contacting us from elsewhere, such as the EU or UK), you can ask us to:

Tell you what information we hold about you
Correct information that's wrong or out of date
Delete your information, where we're not required to keep it for legal reasons

International visitors

This site is hosted and its services are provided by companies operating internationally (including in the United States and Europe), so your information may be processed outside of New Zealand. Our providers (Stripe, MailerLite, Cloudflare) maintain their own compliance with international data protection standards, including GDPR where applicable.

Children's privacy

This site and the book it promotes are intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the site or our tools change. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision.
